Severn & Wye Smokery Shop and Restaurant: Schuco and Structural Glazing

Severn & Wye Smokery Shop and Restaurant, Gloucestershire
Nestled in the heart of Gloucestershire, the Severn & Wye Smokery is a beautifully repurposed stone barn that has been transformed into a dynamic food destination. The thoughtfully designed space brings together a vibrant food hall, artisan smokehouse, café, and a first-floor restaurant, all while retaining the charm and character of the original structure.
On the ground floor, a specialist food hall showcases fresh seafood at the fish counter, complemented by a dedicated filleting school. Upstairs, a 70-cover restaurant with a state-of-the-art kitchen and bar offers a relaxed dining experience with panoramic views.
A standout feature of the project is the dramatic “floating” roof—an architectural statement made possible by a bespoke steel frame and precision-engineered structural glazing to the roof eaves. This clever detailing creates a unique visual effect, giving the roof the appearance of effortlessly hovering above the building, flooding the interiors with natural light and connecting guests to the surrounding landscape.
The scheme is completed with high-performance Schüco Entrance Doors, Schüco AWS 70 SC Windows, internal glass doors, and bespoke structural glazing, delivering a seamless blend of heritage and contemporary design.
